Just found out tonight about the event when Dan shared with us Dean’s new Emerging Media blog. SPIN: Society, Persona, Interactivity & Networks in conjunction with Ars Electronica. This Texelectronica 06 Symposium takes place in various venues but most presentation are scheduled to happen at the Modern in Fort Worth. I am very pleased that although it’s the busiest of busy weekend, I can drop in to hear the wonderful Casey Reas talk about Processing on SAT morning.

passion for journaling w/visual collage

whitneyThough the Whitney site doesn’t accurately reflect what a great show this was – Full House was truly thrilling for me. One of my most favorite artists and at my very favorite museum. I had only a short afternoon with freetime while in New York and can’t think of a better way to spend those precious hours than at The Whitney!

…but it applied to *me.* *I* felt it. Now while I clearly see that the lecturer was presenting theories specific to the “study of history,” it filtered through to me to represent ART.

Dr. Luis Martin addressed a roomful of docents (including me) and although I know he was focusing on big H “history,” everything he discussed with us at the Meadows Museum seemed to also apply to big A “art.” As I digest all his notes, I now have even more topics to cover more deeply as I process my thesis and find my voice. JA in a Day

How strange did it feel to stand in front of 30 fifth graders and tell them that I had studied art when I was their age and… That I was still using those very same skills as an artist today? All these years later.

JA is Junior Achievement and while I’d heard of the organization, I did not know that there was now a superfast, one-day version of volunteering in the classroom. The company I work for descended on a school and took over all the classrooms for most of the schoolday. What a very enlightening experience.

What is Web 2.0?
A phrase that often refers to Internet-based services; such as social networking sites, wikis and communication tools that let people collaborate and share information online in previously unavailable ways. –> from Aaron’s presentation.
